Closed for business
They shut the gate and only the air streamed through
They closed door and dug a ditch
They raised the bridge
And sealed the window
They rebuilt the old wall where it had scattered itself, fallen stone
They battened the hatch
And latched the skylight, to keep out the sky
They put up the blinds
And lowered the portcullis
They darkened the world
And peered through slit arrow windows
With crossbows tightened and notched
Their fingers triggered and ready
They narrowed their eyes
And when the doorbell jangled on the old sweetshop
And the door swung open
No one came in.
